This two-hour webinar-based course will introduce you to designing for Drupal. The course is intended for web designers and graphic designers who are beginning to create designs that will be built using the Drupal content management system.

The course will introduce web design concepts and techniques, the Drupal architecture, how to work with web developers and clients and how to create designs that will take advantage of the new Drupal 7, as well as current Drupal 6. No programming experience is assumed or required.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the components that make up a Drupal website.
  • Understand how a Drupal website is created.
  • Understand how a web design becomes a Drupal theme.
  • Use Drupal terminology and concepts.
  • Learn how to create a design optimized for Drupal.
  • Learn how to use wireframes, frameworks, and mock-ups to create Drupal designs.

Requirements & Format

  • This course will be conducted online during a two-hour period, also known as a "webinar".
  • In order to participate in this course, you will need a modern computer and reasonably fast Internet connection.
  • The course will be delivered via GoToWebinar. Participants will view the instructor's screen.
  • Audio is broadcast digitally through GoToWebinar, so you can listen via your computer's speakers, or you can dial into a telephone number to listen (this is not a toll-free number; long distance charges may apply).
  • Participants can ask questions via a web interface at any time.


  • You will be learning from team members who have implemented 50+ Drupal websites.

Abhijeet Chavan

Abhijeet Chavan is the Chief Technology Officer at Urban Insight, Inc., where he sets Urban Insight's technology strategy. Abhijeet has 16 years of technology experience and specializes in content management systems, Drupal, information architecture and usability. Abhijeet is the co-founder of Planetizen, the world's most visited urban planning network, based on Drupal. Abhijeet holds a Master of Architecture (M.Arch) and Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Abhijeet is a music lover, and previously played in a college music group.

Ki KimKi Kim is a senior web developer at Urban Insight, where he architects and develops web applications to drive intranet systems, legal aid support systems, and social network websites. He has built several contributed modules (Report, User One, OG Hide Membership, Cite) for the Drupal open source project and provided core modules for Urban Insight's Drupal for Legal Aid Websites distribution. He received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from California State University, Los Angeles, and is a fan of gospel, classical music and Korean pop.
