Event description
Introduction to D.I.R. / Floortime For Parents, Teachers, and Therapists

About this Event

The D.I.R. model and its Floortime therapeutic technique are designed to help children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other neuro-devleopmental issues become more engaged, flexible, and able to join in pleasurable interactions with their parents and others. This presentation will introduce you to the foundational components of DIR: “D” - The developmental milestones children must reach for optimal socio-emotional growth; “I” - assessing each child’s individual profile to accurately fit interventions to him or her; and “R” -using the relationship between the child and his or her family as the vehicle for growth. The Floortime technique will be illustrated with clinical vignettes and videos. D.I.R. is an interdisciplinary model and psychotherapists, neurologists, psychiatrists, pediatricians, parents, occupational and speech therapists, teachers, social workers, and others working directly with children and families should attend.
