Description

Photos and distinguishing characterics of common plant families which will make plant id more successful and fun. Plant materials will be available for a close look. Handouts available. This is a particularly useful class for those new to botany and plant identification.

Trainer: Lenore Mitchell is in her 13th year teaching NPM courses. She is the president of Metro Chapter Colorado Native Plant Society. She also has taught for DU Olli and has led hikes for DBG, Roxborough State Park and CoNPS.

Required Text: Preferably Flora of Colorado by Jennifer Ackerfield. Available through CONPS bookstore (www.conps.org/Bookstore), local and online retail outlets and the publisher (800-621-2736) Colorado Flora - Eastern Slope, Fourth edition, Weber and Wittmann is also acceptable.

Native Plant Master: This class is recommended for those with basic botany background who would like to learn more about Colorado's plant families. It does not count towards Colorado Flora Certificate or certification as a Native Plant Master. Click here to learn more.

When to meet: Please arrive by 5:45 PM at CSU Extension in Jefferson County, 15200 W. 6th Ave., Golden CO 80401 (see map). Class begins 6:00 PM sharp.

What to bring: Textbook, paper, pencil, hand lens (approximately 10x). The textbook and hand lens can be purchased through the Colorado Native Plant Society (https://conps.org/conps-store) or any on-line or local area bookstore.
