Description

Introduction to Ayurvedic Medicine Workshop on Saturday afternoons for 8 weeks. Please note the class will meet every Saturday for 8 weeks, starting September 16th. Our last class will be Saturday, November 4th. The classes will be held at the Celebrate Life Spiritualist Community Center in the Castro District. The series will cover the core principles of Ayurveda that build a foundation for a healthy lifestyle. You will learn your unique dosha, or your innate constitution, and what that means for maintaining health throughout life’s seasons. You will also discover concepts in Ayurveda that differentiate it from other modalities-- how the laws of nature dictate Ayurvedic teachings, how Ayurveda defines health and disease, and how to recognize the symptoms of imbalance and simple ways to regain balance. You’ll take home a wealth of information to start using right away.

Agenda:

Week 1 (September 16th): Foundational Philosophies. What is health? What is disease? How is mind, body, spirit quantified?

Week 2 (September 23rd): The Doshas - Vata, Pitta, Kapha. You'll learn your own dosha and how to recognize and correct imbalance.

Week 3 (Sepember 30th): Ayurvedic diagnostics, including how to read an imbalance in one's pulse.

Week 4 (October 7th): Digestion and Ayurvedic Nutrition, including western explanations.

Week 5 (October 14h): Ayurvedic Daily and Seasonal Routines. We'll discuss how to align yourself with your environment both within and without and how routine can help create wellness.

Week 6 (October 21st): Ayurveda for Beauty - we'll discuss how Ayurveda defines "beauty" and some simple ways to create an Ayurvedic beauty routine.

Week 7 (October 28th): Subdoshas - Vata, pitta, and kapha each have 5 subdoshas. We'll discuss what they regulate and how to nurture them.

Week 8 (November 4th): Cleansing: Explanation of the 5 types of Ayurvedic cleanses. Includes an explanation of abyanga or self massage and an explanation of how to do a simple at-home kitchari cleanse.

Sign up for just one night at $25 or take the whole series for $160 (Savings of $20 if you take the entire series). The center is just a few blocks from the Castro Street Muni stop. Or, free parking can usually be found on Market street after 6 p.m. The address is 4530 18th street (cross street is Ord), so if you park on Market, you can just walk down the steps at Ord St. or Douglass St. to reach the center. If you would rather take this course during the week, the classes are also offered on Mondays from 7 -8 p.m., starting on September 11th.
