Description

Introduction to Antimicrobials in Veterinary Medicine

This course is an introduction to Antimicrobials in Veterinary Medicine. It will provide background, context and understanding regarding Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism and Excretion (ADME) of this class of compounds, along with spectrum of activity, typical indications for each class, and relevant target animal and human food safety. In addition, there will be a limited discussion regarding potential clinical use and unmet needs in each class. For each class, some discuss will be done regarding PK/PD relationship and S, I, & R testing and interpretation. This seminar will provide attendees with a basic understanding of Veterinary Antimicrobials in the context of veterinary drug development.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completing this course on veterinary antimicrobials participants will have learned:

  • To be able to describe the basic mechanisms of action (MOA) of each antimicrobial class of agents.
  • Relate the states below to the dosage regimen and expected results of therapy:
    • Immune and cellular defense systems
    • Renal function
    • Hepatic function
    • Stage of infection
  • To be able to discuss the different types of undesirable responses exhibited by antimicrobial agents to veterinarians, scientist, regulators, and peers.

Who will Benefit:

This course is designed for people tasked with developing and maintaining an animal health company's product portfolio and involved with a company's regulatory strategies. This includes individuals responsible for regulatory affairs, developing veterinary drug products, evaluating new technologies or applications, and those tasked with ensuring corporate compliance. Among others, this includes:
