Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Do I have to have prior dance or movement experience? No, you do not. All of our introductory workshops assume that you have no prior knowledge of the material and you do not have to be a professional dancer or athlete. Anyone interested in learning more about Laban/Bartenieff Movement Studies is welcome to attend our workshops.
Is there a particular order to take the introductory courses? We may recommend you plan to begin with Anatomy & Kinesiology, followed by Bartenieff Fundamentals, and finish with Laban Movement Analysis. However, it is not a strict order to follow, and you can start with any course by accommodating your own schedule.
Does LIMS offer any scholarship or payment plan to introductory course students? LIMS does not provide introductory course students with a scholarship or a payment plan. However, either of the following discounts is available according to our discount policy.
- LIMS members get 10% off from the introductory course fee. To register for a course with the discount, please email education@labaninstitute.org.
- Non-LIMS members get a $100 discount applied to the tuition of the third course when they take all three introductory courses at LIMS. To register for the third course with the discount, please email education@labaninstitute.org.
I registered for a workshop but I cannot attend it. What can I do? Let us know as soon as you can and note our cancellation policy below. You can transfer your registration to another date up to one year after your registration date for $25, up to one week (7 days) before the start of the original workshop date. You may even transfer to one of our other introductory workshops.
- Cancellation Policy: A full refund is available when you notify LIMS 30 days prior to the workshop. Cancellations 2 weeks or less from the workshop date will receive 50% of tuition in refund. If you need to transfer your registration to another date, there is a $25 transfer fee. The option to transfer is only available until one week (7 days) before the workshop start date. LIMS reserves the right to cancel any workshop due to insufficient enrollment; however, all participants will be issued a full refund due to any cancellation on LIMS’s part.
I am taking the workshop to satisfy a requirement for my college or university, will you provide proof of my attendance? When you fully participate in the workshop with no absences or tardies, we will provide you with a certificate of completion that you can submit to your school. To ensure if the introductory course at LIMS is valid for school credit, you need to direct the question to your school.
I’m taking introductory courses online but cannot participate in one of the live sessions, would LIMS provide me with a recording of the class? LIMS does not record an introductory course, nor does it offer a pre-recorded version afterward. Please try another schedule that works for you.
What do I need to bring to the workshop? Please get ready and plan to start the class on time. You will need a bit of space in which to move, but a studio is not required. Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in. You may wish to bring a sweatshirt, socks, and a towel or yoga mat as we will be on the floor.
Do I need to purchase any books? You will be receiving handouts as part of the course. There are no required textbooks.
Please contact education@labaninstitute.org for any further questions.
