Description

Introduction To Adobe Photoshop Elements

Instructor: Tim Neumann

Series Overview:

While Adobe Photoshop represents what is likely the most powerful image editor in today's marketplace, not everyone wishes to invest the time or expense that the software requires. For those casual to intermediate photographers, Adobe Photoshop Elements is a perfect alternative. In this course, we will explore the photo organization, image editing, and sharing features that are core to the Adobe Photoshop Elements application. Finally get those photos off the camera, organized, and visible to the world!

Introduction:

In this class, we will explore many of the core features of the Adobe Photoshop Elements application, with the goal of sending you off better prepared to manage, edit and share your photographic images. The course will feature the hands-on use of the application and a variety of sample images to work with during our sample exercises. By the time the student finishes with this workshop, they should be able to import pictures from their camera, organize them more effectively, be able to perform simple edits, and share their results with others.

Course Contents:

The course starts with an exploration of the Adobe Photoshop Elements software, providing a look at the application's interface, a tour of the core features of the app, and a quick look at how to configure the application for your intended usage. Learning your way around the software and understanding the mechanics of using the program will make your future management, editing, and sharing exploits much easier.

We begin our hands-on experience, learning the "Elements Organizer," Adobe Photoshop Elements image management and organization tool. The Elements Organizer serves as the tool to import, manage, and find photos within the application. Its features help us to categorize images in a variety of different ways, and some time invested here will help you to find the desired image for years to come.

We continue our exploration of the Adobe Photoshop Elements program with an investigation of the Elements Editor. The Element Editor is where we craft the image from the camera into the final result that we desire. Features such as cropping a picture, "Guided" edits, and special effects all combine to create more compelling versions of your photographs. Time spent learning Adobe Photoshop Elements editing features will surely pay off in images that you will love to share with others.

We wrap up our exploration of Adobe Photoshop Elements spending some time learning some of the program more useful Sharing features. Nothing better than sharing an image with others, once you have finished putting a little polish on it. Whether you wish to post your results on the internet or create a framable print, we will cover the necessary parameters and Elements steps that make that possible.

Throughout the course, we will use sample images and libraries to help underscore the topics and examples presented in class. A computer with the correct software installed, while not absolutely necessary, will provide helpful reinforcement of the topics presented.

Course Prerequisites:

Participants enrolling in this class should have the following knowledge / experiences prior to attending this class:

  • General operating system knowledge as outlined below

General Prerequisites:

You will want to bring a laptop or computer to class if you wish to follow along using the exercise files that will be handed out. While most of the concepts and features demonstrated will be backward compatible with older versions of Adobe Photoshop Elements, the instructor will be using the most recent version of the application (Adobe Photoshop Elements 2018). You will want to make sure that you have correctly installed the software locally and confirm its successful startup and operation before coming to class.

Many software complications, such as slow performance and lagging screen refreshes, are due to computer systems that are under-resourced. Continued satisfactory use of the software title covered in this course will be dependent upon your computer's configuration; please refer to the vendor's documentation to ensure that your system is adequately provisioned.

Last, but not least, you should ensure that you are familiar with the operation of your computer, its filing system and the shortcut keys and functions that it offers. A large percentage of the support issues that come up during class is rooted in the user not having knowledge of or a base level understanding of the operating system they are using on their computer. Most of today's mainstream software applications, provide features and functions based on capabilities provided by that computer's operating system. Failure to understand operating system provided functionality can lead to difficulty in understanding capabilities within the software we are teaching in class. Base level knowledge of your computer's filing system, storage locations, and operational shortcuts will go a long ways towards enhancing your experience in this course and with your computer system overall.
