MSB Executive's Introduction to Acting Course
At MSB Executive we aim to combine our business experience with professional theatre skills. Over the past years we have had many requests from clients who would like to explore their acting skills further outside a business environment. These classes have been tailored to give this introduction.
What does it involve?
We are offering a 6-week course of acting classes. No previous acting experience is needed, just a desire to learn and try out new things.
Each session will follow this broad format:
- Warm up: a chance to get your voice and body ready to perform and your mind to be creative.
- Acting exercises and improvisations: a chance to improve your voice, express emotion through your body and develop stagecraft by rising to the technical demands of performing to an audience.
- Preparation of dialogues: You will have the chance to put your hard work to good use by working on some dramatic texts mixing the modern and the classic.
Where is it?
The classes will be held in The Courtyard Theatre, a working fringe theatre. It is an exciting place to learn new skills, perform and explore your creativity. The theatre is a short walk from Old Street tube station.
When is it?
Classes will take place from 7-9pm on 6 consecutive Monday evenings starting from Monday 20th February. The last class will be on 27th March.
What will it cost?
The course of 6 classes will cost £450 (including VAT)
Why do it?
Developing your acting skills is a great way to improve your confidence and communication skills. While these classes are aimed at people who work in business, they will be focused on acting for performance rather than business situations such as presentations. It as an opportunity to enjoy learning a new skill rather than being business training.
Class sizes will be strictly limited so you will get plenty of personal feedback from the tutor.
The classes will be run by MSB Executive’s Head of Acting, Steven Maddocks.
Steven is a teacher, actor, director, and writer. After leaving University where he was President of the Oxford University Dramatic Society, Steven did postgraduate training as an actor at Webber Douglas. As well as acting on stage he has worked as a writer and editor. Since 2008 he has been teaching acting to adults and children and has had a well-received book published on drama teaching. Steven also runs his own theatre company.
