Synopsis:

Abhidhamma literally means “the higher doctrine”. It provides a deep and profound understanding of the true nature of all phenomena. The teachings are collected in the third basket of the Tipiṭaka (the Three Baskets) of Pāḷi Canon – Abhidhamma Piṭaka. Unlike the teachings in the other Baskets: Sutta Piṭaka and Vinaya Piṭaka, where conventional terms such as man, animals are being used, in Abhidhamma Piṭaka all phenomena of existences are microscopically analysed and explained in terms of ultimate realities. There are four groups of ultimate realities: citta (consciousness), cetasika (associated mental factors), rūpa (materiality), and Nibbāna.

We are honoured to have invited Venerable Sugatavaṃsa, a very experienced and knowledgeable teacher from Sri Lanka, to give a series of introductory lessons on the key teachings of Abhidhamma. This is the second module of the course and the Venerable will proceed to teach the second group of the ultimate reality - cetasika (associated mental factors).

Feb 2018, Venerable Sugatavaṃsa will start with the first ultimate reality of citta (consciousness). This series of Abhidhamma lessons is suitable for beginners to Abhidhamma, as well as those who have learned Abhidhamma before and would like to revise and deepen their understanding.
