Introducing Smoking Cessation for a Healthier Life
Fri, April 21, 2017, 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM EDT
The smoking rate in the US is currently 15% of the adult population, yet the rate of smoking among homeless individuals is estimated to be between 68%-80%. This health disparity is important because smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the US (CDC Smoking and Tobacco Use Fact Sheet).
Come learn how homeless service providers can help their clients quit smoking within a culture where smoking is pervasive and appears to be embedded in the culture.
Lunch will be served.
Trainers: Irene Glasser, Ph.D., anthropologist with a specialty in homelessness and addictions and Lisabeth (Beth) Bennett, CTTS-M, Clinical Director of Tobacco Treatment Services at CODAC Behavioral Healthcare. will offer the workshop participants practical skills in helping homeless individuals quit smoking.
