Event description

Description

Once thought of as "the country above the US", Canada has recently emerged as a global leader in technology & innovation.

Canada has also been focusing its efforts on an open immigration policy designed to attract a group of diverse, educated professionals. Coupled with lower salaries, higher quality of living, generous R&D tax credits and an attractive exchange rate, it's no surprise that US companies are experiencing "Boarder Envy" and are looking to the North to leverage the strong talent and lower costs of doing business.

But not all of Canada is created equal. Both Toronto and Vancouver are quickly joining the ranks of Silicon Valley with large tech companies opening huge offices, creating a crowded ecosystem and demands for salaries akin to their company HQ.

Enter Alberta.

Long known for being a leader in energy and natural gas, Alberta has been quietly diversifying to compete on the global stage in areas such as food & agritech, health & life sciences, cleantech, nanotechnology and AI/ML.

Not to mention the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii), which spun out from the University of Alberta (UAlberta), is one of three AI Centers of excellence in Canada. UAlberta’s reinforcement learning, game and AI development expertise are world-renowned.

Alberta now stands out as a huge competitive advantage when it comes to Silicon Valley companies looking to grow their business. It offers the same high quality talent but in a less competitive environment, with a higher quality of living and an ecosystem eager to show Alberta's strengths.
