This is a TWO day training. Attendance for both August 18th and August 25 are required to receive a certificate. Both days start at 8:30 am and end at 4:00 pm.

Overview:

This Introduction to Motivational Interviewing workshop is designed to increase providers’ capacity to deliver evidence based practices and operate from a client centered perspective.

This training will introduce participants to the theory, spirit, principles, and strategies of Motivational Interviewing (MI). Participants will have a number of opportunities for practice and skills development through the use of role-plays, real-plays, and interactive group exercises. Video and live demonstrations will also be used to enhance the learning process. The training is designed for practitioners working with clients with behavioral health challenges who want to improve their ability to engage, clients and help them make decisions that improve health.


Learning Objectives:

Participants in this course will:


  • Learn and practice the Micro skills of Motivational Interviewing;

  • Explore how Motivational Interviewing fits into your practice by using case example relevant to your practice;

  • Practice using Motivational Interviewing skills to improve engagement, enhance motivation and decrease resistance.

  • Learn how to use the Elicit-Provide-Elicit method to effectively provide information to clients


About the Trainer

David Jefferson has been an MI trainer for 7 years and has providing a wide range of trainings in the Northwest and Pacific Islands. He has been in the field of Behavioral Health since 1989. His work includes; Community Health Planning, Care Management, Motivational Interviewing, Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment, and Health Care Reform. He is a former trainer for the Northwest ATTC, Youth Treatment Project Manager for the Washington DBHR. David is MINT graduate and seasoned MI trainer and currently works for Skagit County.
