Event description

Description

Once we have a working understanding of the compounds found in Cannabis we must look at what happens when we consume them. this four module intensive explores the Endocannabinoid Receptor System, specific receptor binding mechanisms of cannabinoids, the signaling pathways they initiate and how those relate to reported effects. We will also dive into the Entourage Theory and discuss how many of the synergistic relationships between compounds help to produce the overall effect.

  • Module One: Anatomy, Physiology & The ECS

    • The purpose of this course is to introduce the Endogenous Cannabinoid System and begin to understand how it works and why it is present in our body. Together we will explore a brief overview of human anatomy and physiology to be able to fully understand the importance of the ECS. We will discuss the body’s endocannabinoids, how they are produced and why they are crucial to the optimal functioning of primary body systems. This course will allow us to contextualize how phytocannabinoids interact with human physiology in later modules.

  • Module Two: Receptor Mechanisms and Signaling Pathways

    • The purpose of this course is to form a basic understanding of the necessity of receptors in the body. We will explore specific receptor mechanisms and intracellular/extracellular signaling pathways as they relate to the endocannabinoid receptor system. We will identify the endocannabinoid receptors, where they are located in the body and how they interact with both endocannabinoids and phytocannabinoids to signal for specific pathways. This course will review information from the last course and integrate new information, so that students come away with a comprehensive understanding of the ECS and how endocannabinoids and phytocannabinoids interact with receptors to induce physiological effects.

  • Module Three: Additional Actions of Phytocannabinoids

    • The purpose of this course is to gain a comprehensive understanding of how the phytocannabinoids in Cannabis induce physiological changes in the body. We will review the cannabinoid’s binding mechanisms through the ECS and discuss other non-ECS receptors they interact with to produce a physiological response. This course will allow for a review of the prior module while introducing slightly more complex receptor binding mechanisms.

  • Module Four: The Entourage Effect

    • The purpose of this course is to introduce the theory of the Entourage Effect. This module will tie information together from the previous three modules. This course will establish the understanding that all compounds in the Cannabis matrix work together to produce the overall experience felt. We will uncover the specific ways in which compounds work synergistically in the body. This will deepen our understanding as to why Cannabis has an effect on the body.
