Introduction to Sound and Digital Audio
This limited seat class is designed for those just getting started in music and sound production. Taught by Christopher Willits, with 14 years of teaching experience at some of the leading institutions in the world, the focus is on your creative expression and process. This is our suggested prerequisite for all of the other Overlap classes that we'll be offering in music and sound production.
Students will learn how to import, edit, mix, record, process, and export audio using the popular audio software Ableton Live.
In this class you will gain hands-on experience and dive into the waves of sound, learning the basics about the physics of sound and how you can create the sound you want to feel. By the end of the class you will have a solid understanding of how sound and digital sound editing works, and understand how it can benefit your own creative process. Students are encouraged to bring their own laptops to class with Ableton Live installed.
Our partners at Ableton will supply the software, Ableton Live, to students at a 40% discount once the class has been completed.
This class is customized to the needs of the students. Some of the core topics include:
1. The physics of sound and how sound as energy relates to everything you are creating.
2. Edit and mix sounds and instrument recordings together to evoke particular feelings.
3. Identifying what you need in order to complete music and sound projects you imagine.
