Intro to Song Writing

Do you have an idea for a hit song but aren’t sure where to begin? Or perhaps you have a poem you think would go great sung to music. This class will help bring your song ideas to life and make them a reality! Learn about songwriting methods and song structure that are common and useful for any style. Gain a solid understanding of basic chord progressions and melody writing. Find out how choices of rhythm, tempo, and instrumentation can take the same four chords in an endless amount of directions. Prior musical training on an instrument or singing is helpful but not required. Ages 18 and up.
When: Wednesday June 28th from 6 to 8:30 PM
Where: JUMP Inspire Studio on the fourth floor, take a right out of the elevators and head towards the big Inspire sign.
Cost: FREE This is part of our Connecting Community Program Series where members of the community share their passions and talents free to you, come get inspired! Drop ins are available if there is still space in the class, check the ticket to see how many spaces remain. As this is a free event there are more tickets available than spaces in order to account for no shows. You must register to attend but this does not guarantee a seat.
"Chris Allen has been performing, writing, and recording music for over 20 years. He has written music for a musical play productions, a large veterans day celebration, web series theme music, video games, various web videos and social gatherings, and lots more. He plays lots of instruments (keyboards, guitars, brass, drums) and he loves to sing. His specialty however is in writing, composing, and recording music and songs, especially for visual media like films, videos, and video games. When he’s not creating music, he’s spending time with his wife and five kids outside somewhere or eating good food."

What is JUMP?
JUMP – or Jack’s Urban Meeting Place – is a not-for-profit, interactive creative center and community gathering place in the heart of downtown Boise. Please go to jumpboise.org to learn more and join our newsletter so you are in the know on fun, spontaneous happenings at JUMP.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
You may bus, bike, drive, walk, skip, etcetera. Check Boise's bus schedule at valleyride.org. We love bikers and have beautiful bike racks to secure your ride throughout the facility. Apologies, but the JUMP parking garage is still under construction at the moment. However, the on-site Simplot Headquarter's paid parking below ground is available and accessible on Myrtle St. between 11th St. and 9th St. ADA parking available onsite, please email requests to firstname.lastname@example.org.

What is the refund policy?
We depend on your enrollment for a successful class so please plan your schedule carefully. Classes which do not meet minimum enrollment are subject to cancellation. Refunds are issued in full if the class or program is cancelled, if you cancel at least seven days before the starting date of the class, or for documented medical reasons. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to request a refund.
