Event description

Description

Learn how to layout and sew a durable canvas tote. Approximate finished bag dimensions = 12" long x 5" wide x 15" tall. Shoulder / carry straps / pocket are customizable. We have a range of colors to choose from.

If you prefer can substitue your own fabric (such as old jeans) for the straps or the pocket. See this fabric pattern for the dimensions needed.

Attending this workshop session will give you access to the Idea Forge sewing cabinet--available for use during Idea Forge Commons open hours. The workshop instructor will provide you with the padlock combination.

To get the most out of this workshop consider taking our Intro to Industrial Sewing Machines Workshop earlier on Wednesday and then use the industrial machine to sew your tote. we only have two portable industrial machines available so sign up early HERE.

The canvas tote workshop will certify you in use of the sewing machines and irons, and provide an overview of basic soft goods design concepts including material prep, seam allowances, structural seams, and seam reinforcement.

Note: this inital tote workshop will serve to get you started on your canvas tote. Once you have padlock access to the Sewing Cabinet, you can continue working on your tote during Idea Forge open hours (Mon. - Thur. 8am - 10m, Fri. 8am - 7pm). If you need additional help, your instructor (Max) or Kayce may be available to assist you from 4-7pm on Fridays. Ask for them at the SMITHs student staff Front Desk (by the east entrance).

If you have any questions, please contact Josh Colyer (joshua.colyer@colorado.edu).
