INTRO TO SKETCH COMEDY
This course teaches students all aspects of producing a sketch show including writing, performing, directing, and tech. We explore basic sketch comedy structures and the fundamentals of creating comedic characters while helping you build a library of your own sketches. We also teach students to identify “games” within their scenes to help hone their ideas. Exercises in class work on how to use improvised scenes to brainstorm and generate material for writing. By the end of the course students will have begun to develop a sketch portfolio and have a better understanding of the writing process that can be applied to written projects outside of sketch (plays, screenplays, novels, etc.). Students will be asked to complete take-home assignments and workshop sketches in class to revise and sharpen their rewriting skills.
This class begins Monday , January 9th (6:00pm-8:00pm) (8 Weeks. Prerequisite: at least one level of improv)
This class will take place at the ColdTowne Conservatory, 6929 Airport Blvd., Suite 131
