About this event

Students will learn comedy devices and techniques from a Peabody Award winning and 4-time Emmy nominated writer and producer, Rich Talarico. Rich will teach comedy and TV writing "must-knows" about jokes, black-outs, scenes, and pilot techniques. A good class for those wanting to delve deeper into sketch comedy writing and also pick up techniques for developing longer pieces. Students will also learn how to contribute to others’ ideas and pitches, a valuable writer's room skill.

Rich shares insights from writing and producing 15+ years in late night TV (SNL, MADtv, Key & Peele, The Tonight Show) and from his experiences having co-written five resident company shows for The Second City in Chicago. This class is open to beginner and experienced writers.

The class will be taught via Zoom, and will include student get-togethers and writing meet-ups at the KCIC Comedy Theater in Kansas City.

The $50 payment reserves your spot. Total cost will be $300. Class is limited to eight students.

Schedule (Central time):
