Description

Introduction to MBSR is offered to anyone interested in learning about the 8-Week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program. We will cover principles of mindfulness, discuss how stress can be managed using various aspects of mindfulness, and introduce formal and informal meditations that will be explored in much greater detail in the 8-Week Class.

Ages 18+ (16+ with adult guardian permission)

Root Studio will host an 8-Week MBSR course beginning June 23rd.

Please wear comfortable conservative clothing and layers for adjusting to the temperature. Chairs will be provided.

Shannon M Whitaker is a former Coast Guard helicopter pilot and current mindfulness coach. She is interested in translating the sometimes mystical-language of ancient contemplative traditions for modern inquisitors. Her teaching style is friendly, lighthearted, and a little bit irreverent. She is a Provisionally Qualified MBSR teacher with UCSD. Her understanding of what Mindfulness is and why we should be doing it is informed by degrees in Biology, Chemistry, and Philosophy, by her studies of Cognitive Science at Johns Hopkins University, and by several decades at the School of Hard Knocks.
