Event description

Description

If you are new to machine sewing or would like a refresher, this class is for you. Through the creation of a customized laptop/notebook bag, you will learn all you need to know in order to confidently take what you've learned to start new projects. Fabric options will be available for you to use for the bag. If you have a specific fabric you would like to work with, be sure to bring 1/2 yard with you.

In this project-based workshop, you will learn the following:
  • Sewing Machine Basics
  • Tools and Terminology
  • Basic Maintenance
  • Stitches: Straight, Zig-Zag, Back-Stitch
  • Choosing Sustainable Materials
  • Closures (Velcro, ties, etc.)
  • Troubleshooting

At the end of the workshop, you will leave with a stylish new laptop bag as well as lots of resources to refer to on your next sewing project.

Lastly, there will be an opportunity to discuss/review any projects that you might currently be working on and need sewing advice.

This class will be taught by Friend-of-Resistor Daniel Ryan Johnston, and hosted by NYC Resistor member Jack Poon. As with all NYC Resistor events, this class is 18+ and governed by our Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct, as well as accessibility information, can be found at www.nycresistor.com/participate/.

Please note that refunds must be requested 72 hours in advance. If you have any questions, please email classes@nycresistor.com.
