Description

This three days are for you to play, utilize and create on the letterpress. The first day will be spent teaching and reviewing use of press, type setting, printing, and planning for projects to be tackled on day two and three. Projects can include image making with the press, using linoleum block cuts and other materials, printing cards, poems, or poster in any combination. such as one or two color linoleum block prints. Small book forms are also possible. Each day printing will be done by 3 so the press can be cleaned and studio organized for the next day.

Taught by Karin Spitfire who has been using the letterpress since 2008 to make cards, prints, and small editions of books. She attended Penland in 2007 and learned 7 ways to bind books, 7 ways to print on the letter press and all manner of print making.

Spitfire’s artist books include Libretto for Meena, How it Works, Habeas Corpus, Becoming Visible, and A Firmamentous Day, and have been exhibited at the Harlow Gallery, Aarhus Gallery, and the Atrium Arts Gallery. She incorporates all manner of print making and original poetry in her work. Spitfire is the author of a full poetry collections Standing with Trees, a chapbook Wild Caught, former Poet Laureate of Belfast, and the recent winner of the national Joe Gouveia Outermost Poetry Contest.
