Event description
One-week summer course on biomedical data science and informatics knowledge and skills, offered by Yale School of Medicine and Public Health

About this Event

YALE ONLY

NO PROGRAMMING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Understand the variety of tools and techniques within the biomedical informatics field, and select the appropriate tools and techniques to solve data science problems in the clinical, health and biomedical domains.

Apply the fundamentals of computing and programming to integrate the tools and techniques to perform data science.

At the end of this course, students will take away a basic command of computing and programming for developing their own research as it is shaped by the data science and statistics at the core of the research infrastructure alongside the Yale University Science Strategy.

1. A series of lectures covering several key biomedical data science topics including programming, database, ontology, natural language processing, data mining, bioinformatics, visualization and FAIR data will be taught. These lectures will be offered by Yale biomedical data science experts, who will provide an overview of various data science techniques and how they can be applied to the representation, management, integration, visualization, and mining of a variety of types of biomedical data.

2. Laboratory sessions will provide a structured opportunity to apply knowledge from didactic sessions to real world data. They will specifically aim to integrate material from lectures, using datasets throughout the course so that students become familiar with the connectivity of tools and use-case. Data for the majority of sessions will be obtained from the publicly accessible data sources.

Stay for an end of class celebration on Friday July 26! -
