Event description

Description

Visiting Philadelphia for the first time--or the first time in a long time? Looking for a "highlights" tour of the "must-see" stops in Philadelphia's historic district? One organized and led by experienced public history professionals with decades of combined experience at instutions throughout Old City?

Join Philadelphia's Historic Neighborhood Consortium for Intro to Independence, a one-hour walking tour sharing the stories of the people and places that make Philadelphia's historic district unique for the telling of local, state, and national narratives.

The tour will include stops at the First Bank of the United States; the Betsy Ross House; Christ Church and Christ Church Burial Ground; the Second Bank of the United States; the Arch Street and Free Quaker Meeting Houses; Old City Hall; Congress Hall; and, of course, Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell.

This is the tour for people who want to explore Philadelphia's role in the creation of the United States while learning a little bit about how Old City became what it is today: the historical heartbeat of America's first UNESCO World Heritage City.

AASLH Conference attendees receive a discount when selecting their tickets.

Tickets must be purchased in advance and will NOT be available "at the door."

The tour will be offered multiple times on August 27 and 28, 2019. It will begin at Welcome Park, located on 2nd Street, between Chestnut and Walnut Streets, across the street from City Tavern. This is Welcome Park:
