Need help applying for grants? Our guest presenter Katherine F.H. Heart has got you covered! This workshop will assist staff in developing a preliminary plan, proposal, and estimated budget to seek grant funding for out-of-school time programs. No prior knowledge or experience with grants is necessary. Participants will learn about the following through a PowerPoint presentation, a hands-on proposal planning exercise, and discussion of a sample grant application. This is part one of a two-part series. Part 2: Finding Best Fit Funders, Developing Relationships, and Reporting Outcomes will be held on Friday, May 3rd, 2019.

Presenter: Katherine F.H. Heart, GPC, M.Ed. is President of Heart Resources, LLC and a nationally credentialed grant professional and trainer who has 16 years of experience in assisting nonprofit organizations in Southwestern PA to apply for grants. Katherine has presented grant workshops for CLP-Nonprofit Resource Center, CORO Pittsburgh, Student Conservation Association, national faith-based organizations, and university classes. Katherine F.H. Heart, GPC, M.Ed. is a GPA Approved Trainer and her Proposal Writing Seminars have been reviewed and approved by the Grant Professionals Association National Training Committee. She earned a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Pittsburgh and served as K-12 teacher, youth sports coach, and youth program manager early in her career. Attending both workshops will enable participants to:

1.1 Understand the societal and philanthropic context for grant seeking.
1.2 Understand who is typically eligible to receive grants and entities providing grants.
1.3 List the main steps in the grant seeking process.
1.4 Describe steps and resources for researching and matching foundation funders.
1.5 List the types of documents prepared by grant writers.
1.6 List the basic parts and information required in grant proposals.
1.7 Understand technical language in grant proposals, e.g., jargon and writing styles.
1.8 Use a 10-item worksheet to draft a letter of inquiry and outline a short proposal.
1.9 Review and discuss an awarded short grant proposal.
1.10 Describe how to prepare an online grant submission.
1.11 Appreciate roles of foundation staff and the relationship-building process.
1.12 Describe post-award grant stewardship, management and reporting duties.
