Intro to Dyeing -- Summer Sew Fun
Sat, July 8, 2017, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM EDT
The Maryland Chapter of the American Sewing Guild is pleased to host Susie Krage for a full-day hands-on workshop . We will learn to dye cellulose fabric (any plant-based fiber including cotton, rayon, linen, flax, etc.). In this overview, we will be using fiber reactive or “cold-water dyes” that are nontoxic and easy to use. You will learn a little bit of chemistry (Susie promises it isn’t difficult) and a lot about dyeing. In the morning we will dye and “batch” the fabric (allow it to have time to react), and in the afternoon we will experiment with “nuking” or instant dyeing using a dedicated microwave (Susie will provide the microwave). Each participant will make a stack of dyed fat quarters in their choice of colors.
A supply list will be provided to all attendees upon registration, and some homework is required prior to class. A kit fee of $20 will be payable to Susie the day of class. Coffee, iced tea, pastries, and cookies will be proved throughout the day.
This is a full-day class that doesn’t allow for trips out to bring in lunch, so we recommend you bring your own brown bag lunch. Space is limited, so register early.
