Description

Women Who Code Berlin is happy to host an Intro to Andriod workshop series in collaboration with Wayfair! For this series we will be asking for a nominal fee as a guarantee of attendance which will be processed as a donation to Women Who Code.

This series will be run over 4 Mondays in July:

Monday - 08.07 - 18:00 - 21:00
Monday - 15.07 - 18:00 - 21:00
Monday - 22.07 - 18:00 - 21:00
Monday - 29.07 - 18:00 - 21:00

Note: Please plan to attend the entire series as each lesson will build on the previous one.

Description:

Have you ever wondered how your favorite mobile applications are developed? Do you have an idea for the next great app but don’t know how to build it? Then join us for Introduction to Android this July and start building Android apps in no time.

Takeaways:

  • Get comfortable with the Android platform and the Android Studio IDE
  • Understand how Activities work and how to navigate between different screens of your app
  • Learn how to develop your layouts to look exactly like you want them to
  • Gain understanding of how your app can support different languages and screen sizes
  • Make network requests and handle network failures

Requirements:

  • A laptop that can run Android Studio (Windows or Mac)
  • Android phone is a nice-to-have (alternately use the emulator)
  • Basic programming knowledge is a nice-to-have (i.e. variables, for loops, if statements, etc.)

Teacher Bio:

Safa Orhan

During his college years in Istanbul and after that Safa worked in startups and sofware houses. He also worked as a freelancer, build SaaS services, mentored and managed software projects.

He is fond of tech education and has delivered Android beginner classes for an international bootcamp in Istanbul for 5 months.

Currently he holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and is working as a Senior Android Engineer in Wayfair Berlin.

Taso Dane

Expert on Android. Always after failure resilient and maintainable software. After working long years in such a mindset, joined Wayfair to lead the Android team in Berlin. Currently working together with engineers to deliver best-in-class mobile tools to grow Wayfair's business.
