Event description

Description

Food can be a tool for harm, healing or revolutionary change. Food is a site for culture, creativity and the reclamation of our bodies in the face of systems of oppression. Food is essential for life and yet denied to too many in the form of systemic hunger and inadequate healthy food access in low-income neighborhoods and communities of color-- conditions often described as "food deserts," "food swamps" or "food apartheid." What is the state of the food justice movement in Los Angeles? How can we cultivate a local food system that supports the health of all communities, treats food workers with dignity, and preserves earth's natural resources? Join us for a discuss about the movement for healthy, affordable, sustainable and fair food in Los Angeles and beyond. Moderated by Clare Fox of the Los Angeles Food Policy Council, guest speakers include Rudy Espinoza from LURN, Joann Lo from Food Chain Workers Alliance, Chef Jocelyn Ramirez from Todo Verde and Chef Bryce Fluellen from American Heart Association.
