Description

This mouth watering workshop is sure to awaken your health conscious confidence in the kitchen. Chef Theresa Farthing of L.A. Kitchen and Jocelyn Ramirez of Todo Verde, will present multiple recipes using the same ingredients to demonstrate the versatility of plant based cooking and how to combat food waste. Get engaged, ask questions, and step your food game up in this conversational (and TASTY) presentation.

Theresa came to L.A. Kitchen in 2014 when she was resident at The Downtown Women Center. After graduating from the first class of L.A. Kitchen's culinary job training program, Empower LA, Theresa was hired as an L.A. Kitchen chef, helping to prep meals for Los Angeles' senior and homeless population. Theresa is the heart & soul of L.A. Kitchen. She has had to be very creative in the kitchen, making sure that every ounce of produce donated to L.A. Kitchen gets transformed into healthy meals for fellow Angelenos.

L.A. Kitchen is a non-profit working to combat food waste and unemployment. By reclaiming healthy, local food that would have otherwise gone to waste, supplying healthy meals to fellow citizens and providing culinary job training to formerly incarcerated, ex-foster youth and the homeless L.A. Kitchen empowers, nourishes and engages the community.

Todo Verde founder, Jocelyn Ramirez, is a vegan cook, yoga instructor, and advocate for healthy food access in her community. After Jocelyn’s father was diagnosed with cancer for the second time, she created a plant-based superfood smoothie diet that made him dramatically stronger and helped with a quick recovery. In this process, she noticed the disproportion of healthy food options in the LA area after years of driving across town in search of healthier food for her and her family.

This inspired Jocelyn to create a healthy food option for the Eastside community. She founded Todo Verde in 2015 with a mission to create delicious and healthy plant-based food options inspired by her Mexican and South American roots. Todo Verde's menu includes local, fresh, and organically grown ingredients from local small businesses, farmers, and a mission based food purchasing cooperative.
