Event description

Description

The Empowerment Congress, a nonprofit dedicated to bridging the gap between grassroots leadership and our elected representatives, is partnering with Into Action to host an engaging afternoon on the power of arts-interventions to address the homeless crisis. The event will be rooted in performances from, and dialogue with, homeless and previously homeless artists: a choir from the Urban Voices Project; mosaic artists from Piece by Piece; along with poets and other visual artists. Our panel will have a grounded conversation about how to build more inclusive communities and how to advocate with our homeless neighbors to support these uniquely effective approaches to healing and creative renewal.

Moderated by Pete White, LA Community Action Network (LA CAN), Founder & Co-Director.

Guests: Jonathan Thompson & Trevor Davis from Empowerment Congress, Leeav Sofer from Urban Voice Project, Leigh Adams from Piece by Piece, Eric Espinosa, FoodFight! Special Projects, Mayor's Operations Innovation Team Malcolm Harris, Director of Programs & Organizing, TRUST South LA Jonathon Rios, Poet & Choreographer & June Cigar, Artist, Piece by Piece
