Intimate Partner Violence: Assessment and Treatment Options for Healthcare Providers

Patricia Hogan Klassa, a guest presenter in the Michigan State University (MSU) College of Nursing (CON), provided this course. Patricia “Trish” Klassa, MSN, RN, CNS-C, IBCLC is a clinical preceptor of MSU Clinical Nurse Specialist students at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital. She is a board certified Clinical Nurse Specialist and certified as an International Board of Lactation Consultant. She has more than thirty years’ experience in obstetric nursing and has practiced for fourteen years in the CNS role at Beaumont Hospital and currently at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital’s Birthing Center. She received her undergraduate and graduate degree in nursing from Wayne State University. She is passionate about educating health care professionals about the evidence, assessment and interventions appropriate to care for persons at risk for, or suffering from intimate partner violence (IPV), sexual assault (SA) and/or human trafficking (HT).

This program complies with the requirement for continuing nursing education (CNE) for one (1.0) contact hour for relicensure in the state of Michigan. This activity will be available to learners for 3 years, until 2022. There is no conflict of interest for anyone with the ability to control content for this activity. No financial support from a commercial entity was included. Successful completion criteria for CNE includes an engagement with the required content, 80% or better pass rate on the course quiz, and a completed evaluation.

Michigan State University College of Nursing is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by Ohio Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (OBN-001-91).
