How do intervention and prevention programs help to increase the safety of domestic violence victims?
About this event
Crystal Lopez from the Women's Resource Center will discuss how intervention and prevention programs help to increase the safety of victims and the community at large, specifically when collaborative, community-based prevention/early intervention efforts, like San Diego's High Risk Team are made aimed at reducing social and economic risk factors for victims and their dependents experiencing intimate partner violence.
The Mary Maschal Lecture Series provides a platform for scholars, artists, journalists, activists, and other thought leaders to share information on issues of importance to women. All Lecture Series events are free and open to the public.
Bio: Crystal has a bachelor's degree in Sociology from Cal State San Marcos. Crystal was employed at WRC in 2018 as a Case Manager working one-on-one with survivors and their families in our shelter and office. During her time with WRC she has specialized in varying roles including our walk-in office and residential department as case manager for all 22 families who are living in our two-year transitional housing program. Present day Crystal works in our non-residential department as the case manager handling our 24-hour hotline, working with our clients in our 28-day emergency shelter, and being the High Risk Team advocate and WRC representative, where she meets monthly with different organizations to collaboratively respond to the needs of individuals and their dependents experiencing intimate partner violence at a high level of risk for homicide by an intimate partner. Crystal is a huge asset to WRC and a true advocate for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
