Event description

Description

The City of Chicago has designated 2017 as the Year of Public Art. The Chicago chapter of SEGD is programming all of our events this year around the intersection of public art and experiential graphic design.

For Chicago Design Week, we are hosting a special panel discussion featuring prominent Chicago artists and art curators. The discussion will explore how the panelists intersect their personal work with public art, commissions and experiential graphic design. Attendees will get a closer look into the artistic vision, practice and process involved as a working creative in Chicago.

Our goal is to connect and inspire designers, artists, and those who work with them. Attendees will learn how artists and curators cultivate a creative vision for unique projects and gain a better understanding of the process and resources available in Chicago. The event will include a cocktail reception, networking opportunities before and after the panel discussion, and artist signings.

Cocktail reception begins at 6pm
Panel discussion at 7pm
Artist meet and greet, sales and signings 8pm

The panelists include:

Artist Rubén Aguirre has produced a number of murals in the Chicago land area and across the U.S. Aguirre's work is an intersection of abstract graffiti, design, and contemporary muralism. http://www.theshiftchange.com/

Nate Otto is a drawer, painter, and image maker whose work is inspired and influenced by art brut, abstract expressionism, graphic design, comic art, geometric abstraction, and the onslaught of imagery that pours down on him from his perch in Chicago Illinois. http://nateotto.com/home.html

Dustin Harris and Lea Pinsky form a creative collaboration called Mix Masters Murals, working for and with communities to beautify spaces with art. They have led numerous large-scale mural projects in schools, community centers, and public spaces around Chicago. http://mixmastersmurals.com

The moderator for the event, Molly Zakrajsek, is a Chicago-based illustrator and public artist. She has created large scale works of art for museums, schools, businesses, CTA, Metra and major industry conferences and special events. http://www.mollyz.net/
