Interpretive Spice Jar Workshop: Interactive Art-Making
Event Information
Description
Join artist Ethan Hayes-Chute for an interactive, collaborative participatory workshop prompted by his current exhibition at the MIT List Visual Arts Center and help create a customized interpretive spice blend.
The installation for the List Center explores ideas of self-sufficiency and self-preservation as alternative models for living. The exhibition features a variety of artist-made “spice blends”—including glitter, pebbles, and beads—each concoction created and bottled by Hayes-Chute together with a group of collaborators.
Please bring a “granular substance” of your choice to create a new, custom blend of spice. We will blend the mixture, title the product, and produce labels using another element of Hayes-Chute’s exhibition, a refurbished Epson HX-20 laptop computer. Previous spice blends created collaboratively are titled “Truly, A Funky Blend,” “Baba-Zito Ice,” “Mr Mayo’s Marvelous Mix,” and “Mme. Panash’s Hot Mix Dune Spice.”
Vibe: hands-on, inventive, collaborative
