WHAT MAKES THIS EVENT SPECIAL?
- This educational workshop will be facilitated by an expert improv teacher from The Second City and a social psychologist from Chicago Booth. It offers a hands-on opportunity to explore different communication styles for connecting with people who you disagree with.
- Your participation will contribute to ongoing research at Booth on how to help people discuss opposing views effectively in our increasingly polarized society.
WHY TALKING WITH SOMEONE WHO YOU DISAGREE WITH?
Having a conversation about conflicting opinions is not easy. We’ve all heard about the benefits of embracing diverse opinions and perspectives: they make us better team leaders, more creative problem solvers, and more empathic partners. But disagreement can feel very uncomfortable—even stressful—despite our genuine desire to have open and inclusive conversations.
How can we identify the personal skills and practices that allow us to navigate those difficult situations in productive and successful ways? Find out by participating in a FREE communication workshop developed by THE SECOND SCIENCE PROJECT (SSP), in a groundbreaking collaboration between the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and The Second City. This workshop will guide you through a behavioral science-based improvisational exercise designed to cultivate skill in navigating the challenges of disagreement.
RESEARCH PARTICIPATION:
This psychology workshop is part of an ongoing research project at the University of Chicago on interpersonal communication. We are offering this workshop FREE of charge in return for participants filling out a few anonymous surveys on their experience during this session. The data will be used for research purposes ONLY. No personally identifying information will be collected.
