(a) INTERNET SCOUT Award

While the internet offers many wonderful possibilities, it is also a dangerous place with predators and unrestrained content that may not always be appropriate for young people. While there is no way to prevent misuse and no way to absolutely prevent any of the risks associated with using the internet, we hope to engage in a dialog about internet issues to reduce these risks and have a safer experience for everyone.

Before you begin work on the Internet Scout patch program, please complete the requirements for the BSA Cyber Chip appropriate for your grade level.

Workbooks for the BSA Cyber Chip are available at:

FOR WHOM: Reading Merit Badge is Open to Scouts BSA (11-18 years old), regardless of rank or gender, from any Council or Troop.

Reading Merit Badge Requirements #1a, #1b, #1c and #3b will be completed on 9/14/19 at the LA Central Library - as described below:

Reading Requirement #1: Do EACH of the following:

Req #1a. Learn how to search your library's card catalog or computerized catalog by author, title, and subject.

Req #1b. With the assistance of your merit badge counselor or a librarian, select six books of four different types (such as poetry, drama/plays, fiction, nonfiction, biographies, etc.). Ask your librarian or counselor about award-winning books that are recommended for readers your age and include at least one of those titles.

Req #1c. Find the books in the library catalog. With your counselor's or a librarian's assistance, locate the books on the shelves.

Reading Requirement #3: Do ONE of the following:
