Event Details

In June 2008, Microsoft together with Focus on Ghana (FoG) a local non-profit implemented the MISFOG project focusing on helping a section of Ghanaian youth cope with the challenges of cyber crime. The approach at that time was by the formation of high school clubs, through which they sought to provide them with the tools with which they could learn about cybercrime and subsequently, avoid it.

The need for a broader framework against cybercrime has been underlined on numerous occasions and support to the broadest possible implementation of the Microsoft initiative has been expressed by many, including the Ministry’s of Education and Communication in Ghana as well as organizations in the private sector. The present project is designed to follow up on this. It is to serve as a platform to allow and engage multiple stakeholders into developing alternative mitigating strategic solutions that would be implemented hereafter.

The project objective is to promote broad government and stakeholder support for the fight against cybercrime in the Ghana

The project serves as a resource to support:
  • Ongoing initiatives and activities being carried out by Microsoft and its partners
  • Activities carried out by other partners and organizations dealing with the issue of cybercrime
  • The participation of stakeholders from different sectors, both public and private in cybercrime specific activities carried out by other organizations or partners
The Internet Safety, Security and Privacy (ISSP) convention is a Microsoft Anglophone West-Africa project being implemented by Global Platform Foundation (GPF)—a start-up non-profit organisation in Ghana—in a major collaboration with Mintz Company Limited as well as other local partners; Abusua Foundation, AIESEC Legon and WAVES International. The convention itself is a two day event to be held on Thursday 4th—Friday 5th November 2010. Close cooperation with public and private sector partners will be sought.
