Description

International Women’s Day is coming and WeWork | Kinzie is hosting an Entrepreneurial Workshop for Chicago’s women entrepreneurs, small business owners, and freelancers. In this workshop, our speakers will present four topics: (a) finding the courage to lead, (b) the foundations of entrepreneurship, (c) a woman’s story of finding her purpose, and (d) establishing a position of influence in a competitive industry. With over 150 attendees already registered on Eventbrite as of February 15th, there will be outstanding networking opportunities before and after the presentations. This event is free to all WeWork members; it is targeted toward women, but men are welcome.

The speakers are:

NOREEN HERON, President, Heron Agency, will speak on finding the courage to lead, including the key milestone for every entrepreneur: hiring employees and building and managing a team. As the chief executive of an award-winning lifestyle communications agency, Ms. Heron is a key figure in Chicago's competitive public relations community, and is highly influential and hyper-networked in the industries in which her firm specializes: Hotel, Restaurant, Entertainment, Corporate, Nonprofit, and Celebrity. Prior to founding her firm in 2000, Ms. Heron was the Director of Public Relations for Hyatt Regency Chicago, where she planned and executed some of the city’s largest events: New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, The World’s Largest Office Party, The Bud Bowl, and the Pepsi Easter Fairy Tale Adventure. Hyatt went on to become one of her first clients—and still remains a client today, in addition to more than 25 other hotel brands! While Heron Agency has expanded, Ms. Heron specializes in lifestyle public relations, also including restaurant, theatre and event clients, and has successfully represented more than 1000 productions and 300 restaurants over her career. As part of her story, Ms. Heron will talk about hard work, tenacity, and family -- all essential ingredients in her success. If you are interested in breakthrough success, public relations, lifestyle communications, or hiring employees and building and managing a team, this presentation is essential.

JANICE LOPEZ, Managing Director, Entrepreneurial Services, Women’s Business Development Center, and Director, Women’s Business Center Chicago, will speak on the foundations of entrepreneurship. The Women’s Business Development Center is a 501 (c)(3) and a nationally recognized leader in the field of women’s economic development, and is headquartered right here in Chicago. The mission of the WBDC is to provide services and programs that support and accelerate women’s business ownership and strengthen their impact on the economy. In this presentation, Ms. Lopez will present a structured overview of launching a business, from ideation to creation of a business plan. Ms. Lopez will also present the services, programs, and support available at the WBDC as well as government and other public sources. If you are in the early stages of launching a business, or are established but want to make sure you did not skip a step or two, this presentation is essential.

DANA HOFFMAN, Owner, Midwest Acupuncture Group, will speak on her story of finding her purpose as an established, practicing acupuncturist. Starting with her career in Corporate America as a sales professional for a major telecommunications company, Ms. Hoffman will discuss her personal journey including a stopover as a female commercial pilot in the heavily male-dominated aviation profession, before discovering her true passion for acupuncture. Ms. Hoffman will also discuss her educational retraining including her experience in China, the initial launch of her acupuncture practice, and the risk-taking involved in expanding her practice. Ms. Hoffman will also unmask a few of the mysteries of acupuncture, how it works, and why acupuncture is essential for certain key ailments and conditions. If you are interested in acupuncture or are thinking of changing your career, or have already changed careers and need to pivot once again, this presentation is essential.

JESSICA ZYLA, Owner, Suite Creative Studio, will speak on establishing a position of influence in a competitive industry. Ms. Zyla will discuss her experience as a fashion designer in New York to her new business now as a freelance fashion consultant in Chicago, working with brands to provide the resources they need in creative design, development, and sourcing. Ms. Zyla will take us on a literally inside-out, nitty gritty tour of the fashion industry, from how rough sketches are turned into technical design flats that are then used for line sheets and tech packs, through sample making and sourcing, and ultimately into garment production and merchandising. Ms. Zyla will also provide an overview of the latest trends in the fashion industry. If you are interested in fashion or are thinking of how to leverage your existing knowledge and experience to become an entrepreneurial expert in your industry, this presentation is essential.
