Event description

Description

One of our nation's leading authorities on the American women's rights movement, Marjorie J. Spruill, will be the speaker for our International Women's Day luncheon on Saturday, March 16. This luncheon is open to the community, but seating is limited. Tickets are $35.

As the Equal Rights Amendment again stands before the South Carolina General Assembly, Dr. Spruill, whose work has examined the historical and cultural obstacles to the women's movement in the American South, will address The ERA's Unfinished History. In conclusion, she will take questions from the audience.

Dr. Spruill's most recent book, Divided We Stand, was named one of Smithsonian Magazine's "Ten Best History Books of the Year."

"Marjorie Spruill describes a polarized America that will be recognizable to any consumer of today's news…A story crucial to understanding American politics over the past 40 years…The question raised by the battle of 1977--who speaks for women?--still bedevils American politics.” – Wall Street Journal
