Event description

Description

In the last years this topic returned strongly in practice through new applications of existing techniques and also new techniques and technologies. As a recognition of the importance of this field of activity, all international conferences in Geotechnical Engineering have important sections devoted to this topic and in the future revised edition of Eurocode 7 (prEN1997-3:202x) there will be a new special chapter for Ground Improvement.

In Romania these techniques are more and more used in the framework of the infrastructure development, especially for roads and highways, but many of those works presented problems in service. Therefore, Bucharest Branch of the Romanian Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering decided to organize this international seminar for a better dissemination of the information, for obtaining a better knowledge about ground improvement techniques.

Seminar will include:

- 2 keynote lectures: Prof. Jan Maertens (Belgium) - State - of - the art of ground improvement techniques and Ing. Serge Varaksin (France) - Parameters of ground improvement design, execution and quality control illustrated by case histories

- 2 invited lectures: Dr. Janos SZENDEFY (Hungary) - Lime stabilization of difficult soils – principles, properties and design and Ing. Serge Varaksin (France) - The Menard approach of his pressuremeter and recent advances on equipment performance

- news from the European standardisation: Christophe DENAYER (Belgium) - European evolution regarding development of National Technical Guidelines 45 - for treatment of marginal soil; Dr. Colette GREGOIRE (Belgium) - TC 396: release of new standard EN 16907-4 – Earthworks; Dr. George TSITSAS (Romania) - News from CEN TC 250/SC7 -TG7 Ground Improvement Task Group – New chapter in Eurocode 7

- technical contributions from: Ramboll Finland (mass stabilisation), Carmeuse (lime stabilisation), GT Ground Engineering & Construction Services (compaction grouting), Tensar (geo-mattresses), Soletanche Bachy Romania (deep mixing), Liebherr (dynamic compaction), UTCB (soil stabilisation), University Ovidius Constanta (dynamic compaction), Keller Geotehnica (rigid inclusions), Inreco Mix Romania (soil treatment execution).

The Seminar is also part of a series of events occasioned by the celebration of 200 years of technical education in Bucharest.
