*U.N. International PEACE DAY Program-“Shaping PEACE Together”
*“Unification through Education” Partnership has been created with Compton Unified School District x Manhattan Beach Unified School District to learn and grow with each other through lessons of peace through non-violence actions and education.
Event Theme: We are honoring The United Nations’ Day of Peace 2020 theme- “Shaping Peace Together” with a partnership between Compton Unified School District x Manhattan Beach Unified School District. Our local theme will be “Unification through Education”.

*In person programs will follow all state guidelines for social distancing. In-person attendees will be the event organizers, designated speakers and honored guests. Students, teachers, community attendees will all participate via on line.
Event Live Broadcast: 30 minute Zoom platform for students, Instagram LIVE and or Facebook LIVE for all others. Details with URL will be posted on social media when confirmed.
Event Day Program Agenda:
1*Welcome/Introduction of leadership, students, community, and organizers.
2*What is International Peace Day?
Why does the United Nations commemorate Peace on the 21st of September? Who is celebrating locally & globally?
3*Why CUSD & MBUSD are partnering to educate and bring public awareness to this year’s Int’l Peace Day theme-"Shaping Peace Together".
This partnership promotes “Unification through Education”!
4*Presentation of “Peace Poles” given to both schools that symbolize PEACE, HOPE and an opportunity to learn from a neighboring community. Brief history comment about the tradition of Peace Poles that started after WWII in Japan.
Each pole has 4 sides with:
-May Peace Prevail in our Hearts
-May Peace Prevail in our Schools
-May Peace Prevail in our Communities
-May Peace Prevail on Earth
5-Announce the creation of proposed volunteer Peace PAL Pen Program
6*Participate in the virtual global U. N. Peace Wave happening at noon in every time zone on September 21-presented by Erin Toppenberg, former U.N. representative for NGO Pathways to Peace. Pathways to Peace formally inaugurated the Minute of Silence Peace Wave in 1984.
We will take a moment of reflection and ask all watching to take a
“Stand 4 Peace” Pledge:

-to Share Openly
-to Resolve Respectfully
7*Close with an inspirational statement/quote to promote non-violence and kindness from each school principal. Share that Peace begins with each of us. How we treat ourselves, our loved ones, our friends and classmates, our local and global communities both in person and on line does make a difference!
