Event description

Description

August 31st is International Overdose Awareness Day, a day to remember the many lives that have been lost due to drug overdose. In June 2014, my family lost my brother, Pat, to a heroin overdose. This hike will be in honor of him and the many other community members who have died from a drug overdose and their families.

Prevention Point is an organization in Philadelphia that is focused on harm reduction and dedicated to reducing the number of overdose deaths in the community by promoting health, safety, and empowerment in areas affected by drug use and poverty. Prevention Point offers several services that have been developed to reduce the harm associated with people who have a drug addiction and are unable to stop use. We are welcoming but not requiring donations to this organization in addition to joining us on the remembrance hike. Donations will be collected on the day of the hike.

We hope to see you on the morning of September 1st for this leisurely hike on Forbidden Drive in Wissahickon Valley Park near Philadelphia. International Overdose Awareness Day wristbands will be provided!
