Barbara Barrington Jones began the International Institute of Professional Protocol on the BYU-Hawaii campus 8 years ago. When Barbara was once visiting campus, (her and her husband had a home on the island for many years) she felt very impressed to begin this program to help the students truly become the genuine gold that President McKay prophesied they would be. She says, "Genuine Gold must be polished"...and this program is what does the polishing!
Each year, Barbara brings a faculty of 8 business executives together to teach different aspects of success for the "after graduation life". Courses include:
- Etiquette and Manners
- 1st Impressions
- Dress For Success
- Resume Building
- Social Media
- Everyday Communication
Each of these classes is designed to help students become their best selves, something Barbara has dedicated her entire life to. Classes are scheduled each day at various times so students have a chance to attend them all. They are given a "passport" to have signed off by the instructor after each course. Those who do complete all classes are able to attend a banquet and awards ceremony - where they are able to put into practice what they've learned. Networking with the executive instructors who sit at each table, practice their dining etiquette and manners, dress for the occasion...and be recognized for what they've done in those 3 days as they are presented with a certificate of completion.
