The International House Awards recognize notable individuals and institutions that have made significant contributions to leadership and cross-cultural understanding both in the International House community and on a global scale. The awards were established in 1990 by Honorary Trustee Daisy M. Soros '51 as The Harry Edmonds Awards to honor the spirit of our originator.
Today International House affords a unique experience in cross-cultural cooperation and understanding by nurturing leadership, moral courage, respect, and empathy. Each year, more than 700 carefully selected graduate students and interns from 100 countries share a residential community and participate in leadership training and intellectual and cultural programs. They study or train at more than 75 academic and professional institutions in metropolitan's New York in fields as varied as financial engineering, musical performance, international affairs, and public health. Residents learn essential skills to become our future leaders in business, government, the arts and other professions.
For more than 90 years, International House has served as a haven to a population of more than 60,000. I-House provides substantial financial assistance to students in need -- much of it is provided through the proceeds of the Awards Gala. This follows the spirit of our founders' motto" "That Brotherhood May Prevail."
