China's burgeoning wealth is transforming the Western society in aspects beyond politics: education, culture, food, finance, environmental issues and so on. As more and more Chinese pursue education and employment overseas, the new generation of Chinese immigrants has gained a global mindset and understanding of democratic culture.

These young and passionate Chinese theatre makers are striving to create new narratives based on their individual experiences. Their works challenge conventional social criticisms and weighty burdens are often found in stories about contemporary China.

This August, as Sydney welcomes the Australian premiere of A DEAL by China’s leading female playwright Zhu Yi, Flying House Assembly presents the forum with the cast and creatives of A DEAL, scholars and international artists.

By taking a glimpse into the lives of a handful of individuals whose stories paint a portrait of a society in flux, we hope to create an open space for people to express dissenting opinions about contemporary China, global migration and theatre-making.
