In this workshop, we will hone our skills in writing short stories and flash fiction (stories typically under three pages). We will study elements of craft such as characterization, voice, plotting, and tension, and apply what we learn to our own stories. The instructor will share writing exercises intended to inspire new stories and helpful revision strategies. Participants will be asked to bring in short pieces to share and receive feedback on during the second session. Students will receive feedback from both the instructor and a critique partner, and conversations will occur in a supportive and encouraging environment. At the end of the workshop, we will discuss the process of submitting stories so that we can all complete the workshop feeling inspired to create and submit high quality pieces of flash and short fiction for publication.
