Description

Intermediate Cabochon Caging

Instructor: Erin Stroh

Date: 1/4 and 1/11

Time: 11am-4pm

Price: $140

This class takes course over 2 days, Each day is 5hrs.

Pre-requisite: Proficiency in wire weaving, participation in the wire work 4 part series.

Level up your wire weaving skills! This class focuses on using fine silver wire and bead accents to create a unique cabochon cage of your own design. Learn to embellish a basic woven cage with hammered heavy gauge accents, metal beads and combining the use of a torch to ball wire ends. Students will start with a basic caging design, then using their own creativity to embellish and make the design their own.

Supplies: At least one cabochon (not drilled, flat back) for wrapping. It is recommended that you have a selection to work with. Cabochons about the size of a half-dollar are easiest. Avoid specific shapes like squares, crosses, stars and hearts. Tear drop, pear, abstract, trapezoidal and oval work best.

Fine Silver Wire- each student may have varying needs depending on your cabochon. We will talk about requirements during class, and you will have time to acquire wire from the store as needed. Potential needs will be approximately 3-5 feet of 18 or 20 gauge wire, 10-20 feet of 28 or 30 gauge wire and 1-2 feet of 18 or 16 gauge wire.
