Event description

Description

This course is designed specifically for those who have been beekeeping for at least a year and have a basic knowledge of how the hive works. The 3-hour course will be taught by professional beekeeper Richard Homer and will dive into more complex functions and problems that can occur in the hive and how to deal with them. Hive splitting, requeening, and other challenging tasks that can seem daunting are covered in depth. This course will give you the knowledge and confidence to take on the more challenging tasks in beekeeping and help you succeed. In addition to the 3-hour comprehensive course, three live hive inspections with the beekeeper at the USU Botanical Center Apiary are included. Dates for hive inspections are 4/13/2018, 7/13/2018, and 10/12/2018 from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Hive inspections give you an opportunity to ask questions and observe techniques that a professional beekeeper employs when inspecting hives. The three inspections cover the three active seasons in beekeeping and will help you understand how the hive changes throughout the seasons and what tasks you should be doing during each season. Questions about the course should be addressed to Sheriden Hansen at 435-919-1335.

**Pre-paid registration for this course must be completed by 1/31/2019. There will be no registration or payment options available the day of class, so please purchase your ticket through Eventbrite.**
