About this event

During this Foundational Training in Interdynamic Couples Therapy ™ my learning objectives for you are:

  • Become more adept at practicing the skills that separate couples therapy from individual work.
  • Leave with a better understanding of the common factors and differences between the best-known and research based couples therapies today. If you are a long time couple therapist, come and glean some valuable pearls that will enhance what you already do.
  • Learn how to assess where a couple is on a developmental "roadmap of relationship" - where and how they got stuck.
  • Be able to instill hope right from the start by mapping out a custom designed path forward.
  • Be able to assess and intervene at the right level and customize your treatment plan to fit each unique couple.
  • Skills (problematic behaviors, communication and problem solving),
  • Intrapersonal work (developmental history, level of insight and differentiation, parts work, emotional regulation, and attachment work)
  • Interpersonal (interpersonal neurobiology & systemic dynamics, parts work, attachment pairings, interlocking complexes)
  • Demonstrate therapeutic leadership, enabling you to get off to a strong start and create safety, even with your most challenging couples.
  • Be able to help your couples shift from "help me change my partner" to a context of "growth in connection," and more deeply resourced personal leadership.
  • Leave with some "ninja" communication protocols that will immediately reduce criticism, cross complaining, case-making, contempt, defensiveness, and withdrawal, while deepening understanding, safety, and connection.
  • Help your couples gain insight into what they are really arguing about in those circular conflicts and support them in designing exit-ramps off the conflict highway.
  • Support your couples in developing and referencing the Six Love Capacities outlined in my book The Labyrinth of Love – commitment, courage, curiosity, communication, compassion, and creativity.
