COURSE DESCRIPTION

This interactive and hands-on course is designed to advance the knowledge and skills required to recognize findings necessitating medical referral for patients in a variety of settings. The course will build on the clinicians current clinical expertise through lecture, laboratory experiences, collaborative decision-making, and interdisciplinary case discussions. Medical conditions that mimic musculoskeletal dysfunction, and must knowred-flagsacross the lifespan will be highlighted. Evidence-based management will be addressed to guide the role of physical therapists as collaborative practitioners who are ideally positioned to identify manifestations warranting referral.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon the completion of this course the participant will be able to:

  • Identify signs and symptoms associated with selected medical conditions that mimic musculoskeletal dysfunction.
  • Demonstrate selected physical therapy examination screening techniques.
  • Utilize evidence-based medical guidelines to determine indications for further diagnostic imaging.
  • Apply clinical decision making to orthopedic, neurologic, cardiopulmonary, and pediatric patient populations.
