Event description
Come and learn performance techniques to connect with audience participant on a deeply personal level.

About this Event

This workshop will focus on grounding yourself and your participant, the first steps to connecting with them on a deep and personal level. These techniques will go beyond task-based engagements and game theory, to get audiences to lean into relationships with the characters and the emotional journey of the story. This work is the basis for "submersive" theatre, a new genre where audiences participants are empowered delve deeper into a fictional reality, with a level of control over the narrative comparable with that which they have over their own life.

Instructor Bio:

Christy Casey, creative director of Rorschach Experiences, will be sharing techniques gleaned from her time as a member of the Interactive Deep Dive, a think tank dedicated to interactive performances that place audience participants in the role of protagonist. During that time she helped write, produce and direct several productions, including OpenMind, a collaboration with Meow Wolf during SXSW. That project was featured in The Verge with a 9-article series, The Simulife Diaries, and called "one of the most exciting and forward-thinking pieces of immersive work" at SXSW. She also directed Spirit of the Torch, a camp/ horror experience in which 7 participants were given a character to play as over the course of 5 hours and was described as "revolutionary" and "a kind of magic".
